A little change can be a good thing; a lot of change can be downright impactful. Buick is making major alterations to their brand and their well-loved small SUV, the Encore GX, for the 2024 model year. From that shiny new tri-shield badge planted front and center on the front fascia to the dual displays placed along a single glass panel on the dashboard, the 2024 Buick Encore GX feels incredibly fresh and contemporary.
The Encore GX lineup welcomes the upscale Avenir trim level option. On top of that, the previous Sport Touring (ST) package is now a full-fledged trim. This gives you more trims to choose from, lending to a higher degree of versatility. You can still expect to find the Preferred as the entry-level trim; it is followed by the ST, then, at the top of the line, the high-end Avenir.
The Avenir stands out for many reasons. Even its HVAC controls are different from those found in the two lower trim levels. Its interior color scheme is unique to the Avenir, with beige and black being the two major hues. The name Avenir is embroidered into the leather-upholstered seats to remind you which stylish trim level you are riding in.
What can the revised 2024 Buick Encore GX offer you? This chic and luxurious vehicle isn't just beautiful; it is practical and user-oriented. To better illustrate the Encore GX's wide appeal, let's dive in and talk about a few core components to consider when buying a new vehicle: performance, interior design and amenities, tech specs, and safety features.
The 2024 Buick Encore GX is small but mighty. Engine options from the previous model year carry over to the 2024 Encore GX. Powered by a standard ECOTEC 1.2L turbocharged engine, the base Preferred trim level receives a maximum horsepower output of 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. Upgrading to the ST or Avenir means you get even more power from a 1.3L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This engine increases power output to 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel drive models come paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT); however, opting for the all-wheel drive drivetrain brings with it a 9-speed automatic transmission.
While the powertrains essentially carry over from 2023, one aspect is different. General Motors has re-tuned both Encore GX engines for enhanced fuel economies. FWD versions of the Encore GX have EPA estimates of 30 MPG in combined city and highway driving. Meanwhile, AWD models are estimated to get a combined 27 MPG.
Some other mechanical specs are worth noting since they contribute to a strong driving performance. Electronic brakes come equipped on each Encore GX trim level and come to a safe and complete stop at a reasonable distance. Making a panic stop will involve a whole lot less panicking. You also get engine control with a stop/start system. If you want to turn this feature off, you only need to press a button to disable it. What's more, a fully independent suspension system is tuned to create sharp handling capabilities and smooth ride quality.
Trailering equipment is included on the Encore GX; the vehicle can tow up to 1,000 lbs when properly equipped. You can make your vehicle ready to tow a trailer by adding an available Trailering Package to any trim for maximum towing power. The Trailering Package adds a trailer hitch, trailering harness, and trailer hitch bezel, allowing you to carry that camping equipment or jet skis for a weekend on the lake. When it comes to those epic road trips and escapes to the wilderness, the Encore GX has you covered with these available upgrades.
GM goes to town on the Buick Encore GX's interior design aesthetics. While not many details have been changed from the outgoing 2023 lineup, you will see a lot of high-quality materials used throughout the cabin. What's more, the Encore GX has size on its side despite being a small SUV. The 102-inch-long wheelbase allows you to easily sit five people inside the cabin without heads or knees feeling squished together. This vehicle offers 23.5 cu.ft. of cargo space when the rear seats are upright. Folding the second row down maxes cargo space out to 50.2 cubes, allowing you to easily stash several sets of luggage or several weeks' worth of groceries.
Plenty of helpful interior design elements help make the Encore GX a vehicle for the practical-minded driver. In the back, you can seat up to three occupants on the 40/60 split-folding rear bench seat. Up front, you can relax in the comfort of the available 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar that comes on the ST and Avenir trim levels. On the Avenir, a front-seat passenger gets treated to lumbar support built into the 8-way power-adjustable seat. In the ST and Avenir trim levels, the front seats have an integrated heating function to help warm you up on cooler days.
Speaking of keeping comfortable, the Encore GX is equipped with a single-zone manual climate control system on the Preferred and ST trims. On the Avenir trim, this gets upgraded to a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The vents push forth plenty of air to keep you warm or cool, and the system adjusts to keep the zones' temperatures where they are set. There is even an available cabin humidity sensor on the Avenir that helps you keep humidity under control as the system works to dehumidify the cabin.
In-vehicle technology is one of the most in-demand types of features buyers are looking for, so it is only natural that GM puts plenty of it onto the 2023 Buick Encore GX. One of the coolest new features is the dual-screen display tucked into the single glass panel embedded in the dashboard. The 8-inch digital instrumentation panel sits behind the steering wheel, and next to it is the all-new (and much larger) 11-inch infotainment touchscreen display. This setup is a first for GM, but you can expect it to appear on other Buicks soon.
OnStar and Buick Connected Services are available as part of a three-year subscription. Its Connected Services Premium Plan includes Wi-Fi hotspot data, in-vehicle app connectivity, and the Remote Access Plan. Automatic Crash Response, the OnStar Guardian App, Crisis Assist, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, and Emergency Services all come along with the OnStar Safety & Security Plan. Altogether, these features work to keep you connected while on the road and come in handy should you ever need emergency assistance.
That all being said, there is a lot you can do with the Buick infotainment system. The 8-inch diagonal touchscreen display delivers crisp graphics in easy-to-read interfaces. You can browse through available apps and personalize your driving experience by choosing your favorites. Bluetooth connectivity makes connecting your smartphone simple, as does the standard wireless smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can even pair two smartphones at the same time. There are plenty of USB ports available; the back side of the center console houses one USB-A and one USB-C port.
SiriusXM is available with a complimentary three-month trial period. This gives you access to music channels created by artists and expert-crafted music without commercials. Comedy, talk shows, and news are all part of the SiriusXM experience, as are live play-by-play sports events. What's more, when you use the SXM App to stream, you can access SiriusXM's original podcasts, SiriusXM videos, and personalized Pandora stations. All in all, you can create your entertainment on the Buick Encore GX.
There is no shortage of safety features and advanced driver aids on the 2024 Buick Encore GX. GM thoughtfully equips the Encore GX with safety tools like a brake lining wear indicator, a tire fill alert, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Whenever these systems detect an issue, they let you know immediately so you can quickly fix the problem before it worsens.
Advanced driver aids are abundant on the Encore GX's three trim levels, courtesy of the Buick Driver Confidence suite equipped in each model. Forward Collision Alert works with the assistance of Automatic Emergency Braking to avoid or reduce the impact of a front-end collision at speeds of 50 mph or lower. The Following Distance Indicator tells you what the gap time is in seconds between your Encore GX and the vehicle in front of you. That way, you can adjust your following distance as needed. Front Pedestrian Braking helps you avoid front-end collisions with pedestrians and even has some low visibility and nighttime detection capabilities.
Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning will gently steer the wheel for you, guiding the Encore GX back into its intended lane if you begin to drift. If you are using your turn indicator to turn or change lanes, the system will not issue any warning signals. Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert aids in preventing lane-change collisions by giving you visual side-mirror alerts when another vehicle is approaching too rapidly or driving in your blind spot.
Also standard is the Rear Cross Traffic Alert. When you're in reverse, this lets you know if there is cross traffic coming from either the right or left. Available HD Surround Vision is also an attractive optional feature since it gives you a top-down view of everything surrounding the Encore GX. It works when driving at slower speeds and helps get the vehicle into parking spots using front-facing and rear-view cameras.
