Imagine a compact SUV that is a cut above the rest, offering exceptional luxury at an affordable price. This is precisely what Buick wanted to create in 2016 as it moved with full force toward implementing its strategy of focusing on a lineup of SUVs that would dominate the marketplace. This vision led Buick to debut the Envision, its entry into the ever-growing field of crossovers and compact SUVs. The 2023 Buick Envision represents one of the most affordable luxury models, with a base MSRP of $33,400.[a]

Now in its second generation since the 2021 model year, the Envision provides drivers with three trim levels, each with an increasing assortment of luxury features. The entry-level trim is the Preferred, followed by the Essence and the high-end Avenir. Unlike other compact SUVs, the 2023 Buick Envision provides quality comfort features at all levels, so you will get a vehicle that provides you and your passengers with a pleasant ride no matter which model you choose. In addition, Buick has equipped the Envision with a standard powertrain across all trims so that you don’t have to pay a premium to get the most out of your vehicle.

  • Performance

    Engine and Transmission

The key to any vehicle’s performance is its engine, and the folks at Buick have equipped every model of the 2023 Envision with a very powerful yet efficient model; the 2.0-liter ECOTEC Turbo gas engine. It features a high-pressure die-cast aluminum engine block with a dual overhead camshaft configuration, delivering four valves per cylinder. The engine utilizes continuously variable valve timing to improve efficient performance. This shuts down some of the valves at lower speeds to reduce fuel consumption. It also features high-pressure direct injection to deliver up to 228 hp at 5000 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1500 to 4000 rpm. In addition to its impressive engine, its paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission featuring an electronic throttle control to maximize performance.

    Towing Capacity and Fuel Economy

One of the surprising features of the 2023 Envision is that it can tow up to 1,500 lbs. While this won’t rival larger SUVs or pickup trucks, it is still a nice feature if you're looking to tow an RV or camper for vacation activities. With gas prices continuing to be high across the nation, getting a crossover with solid fuel economy is important to most drivers, and the 2023 Buick Envision does not disappoint in this area. Front-wheel drive models will give you an impressive 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. While opting for available all-wheel drive will improve your Envision’s traction, it will also reduce fuel economy slightly to a still notable 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

  • Technology

    Buick Driver Confidence

Luxury vehicle drivers have come to expect advanced technological features on their SUVs, and Buick does not disappoint when it comes to the 2023 Envision. Buick has put together a package of safety and driver assistance features, known as Buick Driver Confidence, to go along with an advanced infotainment system that makes the Envision stand out in a growing class of foreign and domestic compact SUVs and crossovers.

This package comes with lane keep assist with lane departure warning, which will alert you if your Envision is starting to drift out of lane on the highway and will use slight steering adjustments to get you back on the straight and narrow. The following distance indicator will let you know how close you are to the vehicle in front of you and will alert you if you are getting too close. If this happens, the forward collision alert will alert you to brake or take evasive action to avoid an accident. This will also trigger the automatic emergency braking system, which will bring you to a complete stop, either avoiding a collision or reducing the impact. There is even a front pedestrian braking feature that works similarly but has been adjusted to help you avoid striking a pedestrian in the path of your Envision.

IntelliBeam high-beam control will automatically turn your high beams on and off when driving at night or in an area of low light, such as a tunnel. It has been designed to turn the high beam headlights off if the system detects another driver, which will avoid distracting them.

Buick Driver Confidence Plus and Other Available Features

Each model of the 2023 Envision helps you view the traffic behind you when you put your vehicle in reverse. While the Preferred and Essence trims come with a standard HD rear vision camera, the top-line Avenir has a standard HD surround vision camera that gives you a 360-degree overview of the Envision, so you have total access to everything around you when backing up.

In addition to the extensive Buick Driver Confidence technology that's standard on every Envision, the manufacturer also offers the ability to upgrade the already exceptional safety features even further with the Buick Driver Confidence Plus package. One of the most common causes of accidents occurs when you have to change lanes on a busy highway, often risking a collision with a vehicle driving in your vehicle’s blind spot. The Plus package adds another layer of protection during these tricky situations by including lane change alert with side blind zone alert. This tool will let you know if another vehicle is in your Envision’s blind spot when you signal to change lanes. Once the coast is clear, you can move over without worrying about causing a collision.

The Plus package also offers rear cross traffic alert, which works with the standard rear camera to help you avoid colliding with another vehicle or a pedestrian when you back out of a parking spot. The feature will alert you if someone or something is about to cross behind your Envision that is not in sight of the camera. There is also rear park assist, which will help guide you into a parallel parking space, which comes in handy when driving in the city or accessing a busy shopping street.

    Infotainment systems

Each model of the 2023 Buick Envision features the Buick Infotainment system on a diagonal color touchscreen. The Preferred model has an 8-inch screen, while the Essence and Avenir feature a sizable 10.2-inch touchscreen. The Avenir adds an onboard navigation system that is also available as an option on the Essence, allowing you to find your destination in an unfamiliar city a breeze.

The Buick infotainment system will help you stay in touch with Bluetooth hands-free smartphone connectivity. There is also a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot so you and your passengers can access the Internet wherever you go in your Envision. The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility allow you to stream your favorite smartphone apps without the hassle of bringing your charging cables. There is also standard Alexa Built-In, so everyone’s favorite virtual personal assistant can help you along the way.

The Avenir model adds a number of class-exclusive technology features that can be added as options on the Essence trim. Wireless smartphone charging provides a slot in the front console that can be used to keep your devices charged up without needing a USB cable. The Bose 9-speaker premium sound system has been designed to give the Buick Envision Avenir incomparable audio performance, perfect for every audiophile.

    Balancing Passenger and Cargo Space

One of the biggest complaints many drivers have about crossover and compact SUV models is that they represent a compromise. Some provide adequate space in the passenger compartment but have trunks that are barely usable. Others provide cargo space in the trunk but have cramped rear seating. Fortunately, the engineers at Buick have gotten the balance right with the 2023 Buick Envision.

Ample Passenger Space to Provide Maximum Comfort

The 2023 Buick Envision provides an immense amount of space for up to five passengers. The entire passenger compartment measures out to over 100.4 cu.ft. of space, with plenty of room for adult passengers to stretch out without feeling cramped. The Envision features soft-touch premium materials that are quite comfortable and durable, with heated and ventilated seats available as an option on most models. The compartment itself is known for a quiet ride since Buick features QuietTuning noise canceling technology on the Envision. There is also a standard Panoramic Moon Roof on all models of the 2023 Envision that can be used to let the outside light in.

The designers at Buick have done an exceptional job of apportioning the space between the front and back seats. For example, front-row passengers will enjoy having 39.6 inches of headroom and 40.4 inches of legroom, while the passengers in the rear won’t complain about 38.9 inches of headroom and 39.3 inches of legroom. No matter what part of the cabin you're sitting in, the Envision ensures your ride will be an enjoyable one.

    Cargo Space

The Essence and Avenir models of the 2023 Envision feature a hands-free programmable liftgate, which is available as an option on the Preferred trim. It provides easy access to the 25.2 cu.ft. of space in the Envision’s trunk. If you need more space for luggage, groceries, or other belongings, simply fold down the 60/40 split bench in the rear row of seats on the Envision to free up a total of 52.7 cu.ft. of space, more than enough room for all of your stuff!
